"I have always painted and drawn, ever since I was a child, but I didn't take that up as a profession; I went into Army instead. I spent ten years in the Regular Army in India. The last five of those I was A.D.C. to the Government of the Punjab and Bengal. It was while I was in Bengal I started designing. I happened to have a friend, Indira, Maharani of Cooch Behar, who used to have parties all the time at her house in Calcutta and in Darjeeling."
